My dear brothers and sisters,
Every summer, our DMin (Doctor of Ministry) students come to Denver for two weeks of intensive seminars as part of their coursework. A few years ago I lovingly started to call it Doctor Camp, and that moniker has now firmly taken hold in our community. Doctor Camp is my favorite time of my work year, because it really is like camp: students gather from around the country for what amounts to a big reunion involving ten full days of class, coffee, conversation, and camaraderie. I basically serve as camp director, making sure we have enough snacks and that no one gets hurt on the archery range. I also get to learn from our faculty and students, who are some of the most incredible ministry leaders you’ll ever meet.
I am writing this as we are rounding the turn into Week 2, full of gratitude for the first week. Here are just a few of my favorite memories from Week 1:
The snack setup by Student Life, a.k.a. The Table of Infinite Sustenance.
The 1,000-piece community puzzle which gave folks a brain break during the coffee breaks.
The DMin Women’s Happy Hour, which keeps growing each year.
A successful inaugural DMin Preview Day with prospective students.
Shooting hoops with students during class break a.k.a. “recess.”
Sitting it on invigorating classroom discussions about the theological act of writing SOPs, the nature of leadership and power, what it really means that Christ has conquered death, and whether Turkish Delight actually tastes good.
Students using their breaks to organize prayer time for classmates.
On we go into Week 2. I am beyond grateful for the work I get to do, and the people I get to do it with.
Peace,
Angie
